The Society’s Committee aims to research, promote and enjoy the history of the Kenmore district, including the suburbs of Kenmore, Kenmore Hills, Chapel Hill, Fig Tree Pocket and Pullenvale.

Anzac Day, 2019

The Kenmore and District Historical Society manned a site at the annual Anzac Day service in Kenmore. Thank you to the KDHS members who helped sell our Kenmore War Memorial books and promote our society on ANZAC Day. Helpers on the day were committee members John, Sue, Dorothy, Ian and Judy. Later in the day a site was also manned at the Cricket Match at Brookfield Showgrounds, helpers were Edna, Sue, John, Deann O’Donoghue, Barb Shepherd, and Judy. We made about $600 from the sale of books and spoke with many people about our local history. Photos by John Carter.

Kenmore Library Display, October 2018

Cr Kate Richards opened the KDHS Display of Photos of Early Transport at Kenmore library in October 2018.

Pullenvale Environmental Education Centre Morning Tea

The Kenmore & District Historical Society, together with the Pullenvale Environmental Education Centre (PEEC) hosted a morning tea at the centre to share with the local history groups the history records and photos held at PEEC. Members from four history groups attended, Kenmore & District Historical Society, Brookfield & District Museum and Historical Society, Moggill Historical Society and the Mt Crosby Historical Society.

Kenmore South State School Fete

On August 5th 2017 a number of KDHS committee members attended the Kenmore South State School 50th Anniversary fete.

The fete was a great success. Everyone had a good time and lots of people came to look at the posters and the 1951 map and to have a chat.

Preserving History

Finding out and sharing the history of Kenmore and district helps provide a sense of continuity for a busy suburban community. Whilst not everyone wants to immerse themselves in historic research, most people are really interested to find out how the suburb operated as a farming community until the housing estates commenced in the 1950s. And, others who have lived in Kenmore for decades have a strong role in sharing their memories and photographs of life in the then ‘outer suburb’.

Kenmore and District Historical Society hopes to achieve on-going preservation and presentation of this history.
